June 25, 2008. Tajik-Chinese economic cooperation discussed in Beijing
The fourth two-day session of the Tajik-Chinese intergovernmental commission for economic and cooperation is ending in Beijing, China today. According to the Tajik MFA, Tajik delegation participating at the session is led by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Ghulomjon Bobozoda. The commission's session in Beijing has discussed issues related to the present state and further expansion of economic and trade cooperation between Tajikistan and China and has summed up the results of work having been carried out by the commission since its third session, which was held in Dushanbe in September 2006. We will recall that the third session of the commission in Dushanbe focused on energy cooperation between the two countries, including rehabilitation of the Varzob, Golovnaya and Qairoqqum hydropower plants in Tajikistan and the possibility of China's investing in construction of small power plants in Tajikistan.

June 25, 2008. "Cooperation: South Kazakhstan - China" business forum is on
A business forum "Cooperation: South Kazakhstan - China" organized by the Socio-Entrepreneurial Corporation "Ontustik" JSC is taking place in Shymkent town; Kazinform reports. In April Beijing hosted a business forum "Kazakhstan - China: partnership for success" where the Kazakh delegation including the representatives of "Ontustik" JSC took part. The delegation had a number of business meetings with the representatives of the Chinese business structures interested in investment projects of South Kazakhstan region. The "Cooperation: South Kazakhstan - China" forum is aimed at the development of cooperation with the Chinese entrepreneurs and state structures, attraction of partners for collaboration in the sphere of equipment production and introduction of the advanced technologies to South Kazakhstan oblast.

June 11, 2008. Kazakhstan, China negotiate security cooperation
The 4th session of the Security Cooperation Subcommittee has started today in Beijing within the framework of the Kazakh-Chinese Cooperation Committee, Kazakh Embassy in China reports. Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Nurlan Yermekbayev heads the Kazakhstani delegation consisting of diplomats and representatives of the domestic law-enforcement agencies. During two-day session the sides plan to sum up results of the work done since the 3rd session and coordinate the major spheres and directions of security cooperation. In addition, representatives of the Kazakh and Chinese law-enforcement agencies are to discuss problems of cooperation in counteraction to criminal activity.

June 9, 2008. Kazakhstan, China to discuss security cooperation in Beijing
The 4th session of the Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the Kazakh-Chinese Cooperation Committee will take place in Beijing on June 12, Kazakh MFA official spokesperson Yerzhan Ashikbayev told a weekly briefing on Monday. The session is believed to be co-chaired by deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan and assistant to Foreign Minister of China. Security Cooperation Subcommittee is one of the profile subcommittees of the Kazakh-Chinese Cooperation Committee. It is aimed at coordination of mutual cooperation in the sphere of security, including fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, cooperation between special services, military and law-enforcement bodies.

June 2, 2008. More than 80 China's companies to participate in exhibition in Dushanbe in July
More than 80 companies from China are expected to participate in the Chinese trade and investment exhibition that will be held in Dushanbe in late July, according to Tajikistan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI). Issues related to preparations for this exhibition were major topic of a May 30 meeting of the CCI head Sharif Said with Chinese official Wan Chungan (phonetically spelled. In the course of the talks, the two discuss bilateral trade between Tajikistan and China. During the meeting, it was noted that trade between the two countries last year amounted to $524 million and it is expected to increase this year. Said and Wan also agreed that a new regime of work of the crossing checkpoint Kulma on the Tajik-Chinese in GBAO's Murgab district would promote further increase in trade between Tajikistan and China. The CCI head noted that a large Tajik delegation will participate at the Fourth International Fair in Kashgar, China that will be held on June 28.

May 15, 2008. Tajik entrepreneurs to participate at China Harbin Fair
Tajikistan is expected to take part at China Harbin Fair that will open in Harbin on June 15, Asia-Plus has learned at Tajikistan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI). The source at CCI said that that issue had been discussed at meeting of the CCI head Sharif Said with visiting Chinese delegation led by Izyen Ewu (phonetically spelled), the deputy secretary general of the people's government of China's Heilung-Kiang Province. May 8, 2008. Tajik PM calls on Chinese companies to expand cooperation with Tajik businessmen
State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and China were discussed at a meeting of Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov with Mr. Wang Sindiye (phonetically spelled), the head of the China New Era Company, that was held in Dushanbe on May 7, according to presidential press service. In the course of the talks, the two expressed satisfaction with increasing pace of expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries. Pointing out contribution China has made to development of Tajikistan's economy, the prime minister called on Chinese companies to establish closer cooperation with business circles in Tajikistan. For his part, Mr. Wang noted that his company had established cooperation with Tojikmatlubot (Tajikistan's association of consumers' cooperatives) in sectors like procurement, processing and sale of farm produce, etc.

April 15, 2008. Tajik, Xuar officials discuss cooperation issues
Ways to expand bilateral cooperation were a major topic of a meeting of Sharif Said, the head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), with visiting deputy governor of the Kashgar district of China’s Xinjiang-Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR), Temour Mamad, that was held in Dushanbe on April 15, Tajik CCI’s press service said. Tursun Yasin, the head of Kashgar’s CCI, also attended the meeting that focused on issues related to holding an exhibition of Kashgar goods in Dushanbe this summer. During the meeting, the Kashgar deputy governor handed invitations for Tajik entrepreneurs to attend the Kashgar International Trade Exhibition that will open on June 28 this year. During its stay in Tajikistan, the Kashgar delegation is scheduled to visit Khorog, Gorno Badakhshan and Qurghon Teppa, Khatlon province to hold talks with local authorities, according to CCI’s press service.

March 28, 2008. SCO anti-terrorist structure holds session in Tashkent
The Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization held its 11th session in Tashkent. Representatives of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan participated in the session. The Council approved the report about its activity in 2007 for the Council of SCO heads of states. Proposals and recommendations for the year 2008 were considered. Implementation of joint actions to ensure security of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing were also considered. The Council approved a number of decisions related to combating terrorism, separatism and extremism.

Senior government officials from the member countries of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) programme of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will discuss ways to strengthen regional cooperation in trade and transport in Tashkent. Over two days, CAREC senior officials from the areas of customs, trade facilitation, and transport will discuss and share opinions to finalize the Transport and Trade Facilitation Strategy Report. January 25, 2008. Kazakh Senate Speaker, China’s President met in Beijing
Speaker of the Senate of Kazakhstan’s Parliament Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Chinese President Hu Jintao within the framework of the official visit to the People’s Republic of China today. K. Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan is interested in the development of parliamentary relations between the two states. He underlined that the Chinese experience in the legislative provision of reforms was very important for Kazakhstan.
