June 26, 2008. Kazakhstan - Kyrgyzstan cultural cooperation discussed in Bishkek
Kazakhstan - Kyrgyzstan cultural cooperation was discussed in Bishkek on Wednesday, the agency reports referring to the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kyrgyzstan. According to the press service of the Ministry, bilateral meetings of Culture Minister Sultan Rayev with Vice Minister of Culture of Kazakhstan Mynbay Darhan Kamzabek uly took place during the fifth meeting of Culture Ministers of SCO member states. S. Rayev noted that mutual relations in the field of culture and arts between SCO countries have been developing. SCO festival in Bishkek and creative forum of intelligentsia of the neighboring countries were held last year in Almaty. To expand such cooperation, S. Rayev suggested activization of exchange of creative collectives, in particular, theatrical and art, especially from frontier oblasts of the Republics. The arrangement on renewal of publishing of scientific-literary magazine in the Kazakh and Kyrgyz languages Alatau-Alataoo has been reached. Aytmatov's books will be published in Kazakhstan, including his most recent work When Mountains Fall, as well as other Kyrgyz writers in the Kazakh language. The works of classical authors of the Kazakh literature will be published in Kyrgyz.

June 26, 2008. ACCELS initiates cooperation with Kyrgyzstan on development of vocational education
American Councils for International Education (ACCELS) supports cooperation with Kyrgyzstan on development of vocational education. Employee of the State Agency for Vocational Education under the Government of Kyrgyzstan Anara Korgonbekova told the Kabar Agency. Yesterday director of the State Agency for Vocational Education under the Government of Kyrgyzstan Nurlan Askarov met with ACCELS President, Pr. Dan Davidson. During the meeting the sides discussed development of vocational education system of Kyrgyzstan and possibilities of cooperation between the ACCELS and the State Agency for Vocational Education. According to Dan Davidson, in frames of ACCELS project it s expected to render aid to establishments of vocational education of Kyrgyzstan.

June 25, 2008. K.Bakiyev set a task to work out the country's long-term development strategy till 2020
Kyrgyzstan has essentially strengthened its socio-economic potential and achieved high level of production as well as increased the rates of state budget. President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev told it during a meeting of the national council on strategic development. "However, the inconsequence on some directions of reforms has caused a delay of the country's economic growth. In order to make reforms more effective, it is necessary to focus attention on three basic directions. These are - strengthening of economic growth and creation of working places, improving the level of social protection and human development, increasing the efficiency of state sector", - said the head of state. "The country's development strategy is a main document of Kyrgyzstan, which determines directions of development and activities of the country till 2010. The strategy's goal is to increase the level and quality of citizens' life through constant economic growth, fighting with unemployment and poverty, receiving high and stable revenue".

June 24, 2008. Kyrgyz PM met with Executive Directors of the WB and IMF
Prime Minister Igor Chudinov met with Executive Directors of the World Bank Michel Mordasini and International Monetary Fund Tomas Moser, who represent Swiss group of countries including Kyrgyzstan, the governmental press service reports. During the meeting the issues of further cooperation of Kyrgyzstan with WB and IMF were discussed. I. Chudinov expressed gratitude to the World Bank for the rendered financial aid in realization projects in all sectors of Kyrgyzstan's economy, which influence on social and economic development of the country. The Kyrgyz PM stressed fruitful cooperation with IMF in frames of Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility Program (PRGF). He also noted that its necessary to work out joint cooperation program in frames of PRGF. T. Moser stressed that IMF is ready to cooperate with Kyrgyzstan in frame of a new program. He said that the new program will be a signal for attracting means of international donors and investors. M. Mordasini told that the World Bank highly appreciates efforts of the Kyrgyz Government and is ready to render aid in solving problems of economic character. The World Bank welcomes possible cooperation of Kyrgyzstan with IMF, as this will be a positive background to hold negotiations with other international finance organizations.

On June 23, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ednan Karabaev met with parliamentary delegation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey at the head of Turkey - Kyrgyzstan friendship group Ibrahim Khasgur. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports. During the meeting E. Karabaev emphasized fruitful work of session of Inter-parliamentary council of Turkic speaking countries in Antalya on forming Inter-parliamentary assembly, he expressed confidence in further activation of bilateral cooperation and focused attention on trade and economic cooperation. He stressed that Kyrgyzstan intends to create all favorable conditions for successful activity of Turkish business in Kyrgyzstan. The sides noted as the most successful direction of Kyrgyz-Turkish cooperation the education sphere and training of experts in various universities of Turkey.

June 20, 2008. Kyrgyzstan intends to study Malaysia's experience on reforming higher education system
Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Malaysia J.Kulubaev met with the minister of higher education of Malaysia, a spokesperson of the foreign ministry of Kyrgyzstan told. During the talks, J.Kulubaev informed the minister about carrying out reforms in the system of higher education of Kyrgyzstan and expressed Kyrgyzstan's interest in studying experience of Malaysia on reforming the higher education system and establishing cooperation between education ministries of the two states. The parties agreed to activate joint efforts for soonest signing of an agreement on cooperation in the field of education and exchanged opinions on expediency of contacts and visits at the level of heads of ministries for discussing concrete spheres of cooperation.

June 20, 2008. Prospects of Tajik-Kyrgyz cooperation discussed in Bishkek
State and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan were a focus of a meeting of Tajik Ambassador to Tajikistan Asomuddin Saidov with Kyrgyz Prime Minister Igor Chudinov in Bishkek on June 19. According to Kyrgyz government's website (gov.kg), in the course of the talks, the two discussed a board range of issues related to cooperation between the two countries in different fields. They, in particular, exchanged views on positions of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the issue of rational use of water and energy resources. It was noted that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan share similar stances on this issue. Kyrgyz premier also underlined the importance of cooperation between the two countries within the CASAREM (Central Asia-South Asia Regional Electricity Market) project, implementation of which will give both countries an opportunity of profitably purchasing surplus electricity to South Asia's states.

June 16, 2008. Kurmanbek Bakiyev: Intellectual property is the source of economic growth
President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev received director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Kamil Idris and president of Eurasian Patent Organization (EPO) Alexander Grigoriev, who arrived in Kyrgyzstan to participate in a work of the international symposium entitled "Intellectual Property and Traditional Knowledge", which will take place in Cholponata between June 16 and 18. President K.Bakiyev expressed gratitude to WIPO and EPO for supporting and assisting Kyrgyzstan in the field of protecting the rights on intellectual property. He expressed hope the symposium's work will be successful and fruitful. The head of state said the intellectual property is the source of economic growth, development of cultural potential of the country, growth of people's welfare. "Kyrgyzstan does not have liberal supplies of oil. However, we have the main wealth - human resource - intellectual potential of people. We stake on development of real economic sector, particularly, a new tax code is worked out, oriented on creation of maximum favorable conditions for development of small and medium business, improving investment climate in the republic", - said K.Bakiyev. K.Idris said Kyrgyzstan is rich with its priceless cultural heritage.

June 13, 2008—June 15, 2008. The 6th summit of Diabetes Associations of Eastern European and CIS countries has started in Bishkek
The 6th summit of Eastern Europe and CIS Diabetes Associations will take place in Bishkek today. The summit brings together over 10 countries including Belgium, Lithuania, Romania, and Netherlands. The event will complete its work on June 15, the press service of Kyrgyz Diabetes Association reported. The summit - Unity for Good - is believed to attract attention of member -states to diabetes issue. Worldwide medics compare the disease with a delayed-action bomb. The number of diabetic will hit 330 mln worldwide by 2025, whereof Kyrgyzstan will see other 27 thousand diabetics. Representatives of more than 10 countries of the world, including, netherlands, Belgium, Romania, Litva and almost all CIS countries will take part in the summit.

June 12, 2008—June 13, 2008. Central Asian education ministers to sign memorandum on joining Bologna Process
Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov will attend the Central Asian education ministers' meeting that will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from June 12-13. According to the Ministry of Education (MoE), the meeting aims to discuss issues related to creating the Central Asian higher education area is supposed to end with signing of a memorandum on joining the Bologna Process. "Joining the Bologna Process means that our diplomas will be recognized by international community," the source at a MoE said, noting that the memorandum will be singed by education ministers of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

June 9, 2008. Malaysia help Kyrgyzstan to train personnel for the agency on warning corruption
A two-day international conference entitled "The fight with corruption in Kyrgyzstan. Problems and perspectives" ended in Bishkek. Spokesperson of the national agency of Kyrgyzstan on warning corruption Baktybek Rysaliev told it to a correspondent of "Kabar" News Agency. He told a memorandum on mutual understanding on bilateral cooperation in warning and fighting with corruption was signed on the results of the conference between the national agency of Kyrgyzstan on warning corruption and anticorruption agency of Malaysia. Commissioner of the national agency of Kyrgyzstan on warning corruption Askarbek Bakeev and director general of the anticorruption agency of Malaysia Said bin Hamdan signed the document. Malaysia will help Kyrgyzstan to train personnel for agency on warning corruption according to the memorandum.

Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Igor Chudinov met with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department of Malaysia Dato Seri Mohammed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz. During the talks, I.Chudinov expressed thanks to the guest for participation in the international conference on corruption in Kyrgyzstan. I.Chudinov said the growth of GDP and budget receipts of the country is connected, above all, with successes in fighting with corruption and due to improving administration in customs and tax inspectorates. The PM emphasized that the country's further development is connected with fighting against corruption. The government on this occasion eliminates the reasons of origin of corruption. Kyrgyzstan attaches a great importance to the cooperation agreement that signed by anti-corruption agencies of Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia. The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department of Malaysia said that his country is ready to cooperate with Kyrgyzstan and assist in necessary recommendation, particularly, Malaysia is ready to share with experience and skills of fighting with corruption, assist in setting up electronic government. The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department of Malaysia invited Igor Chudinov to visit Malaysia.

June 4, 2008. Kyrgyzstan's GDP for January-April 2008 has increased by 6.3%
The CIS Statistical Committee released data on GDP for January-April 2008. The GDP rate in the CIS countries grew by 8% in average compared with 2007. The highest GDP rate is reported in Azerbaijan (15%) and Belarus (10.4%). In Russia and Armenia GDP growth reached 9.3%, in Uzbekistan - 8.1%, in Kyrgyzstan - 6.3%, in Kazakhstan - 6%, in Ukraine - 6.2%, in Tajikistan - 4.1%. From January to April 2008, inflation made 23.3% in Kyrgyzstan compared to the same period last year. The National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic says inflation makes 7.2%. According to calculations of the CIS Statistical Committee, the highest inflation rate is reported in Tajikistan (26.6%), the lowest inflation rate is reported in Armenia (8.6%). In Kazakhstan inflation rate reached 18.8%, in Azerbaijan - 17.8%, in Moldova - 15%, in Russia -13.2%, in Belarus - 15%, in Georgia - 11.5%. The CIS Statistical Committee does not have inflation rates for Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in its report. In average the inflation rate within the Commonwealth of Independent States made 16%.

June 3, 2008. The 4th session of EurAsEC Health Care Council started in Bishkek
The fourth session of EurAsEC Health Care Council has started today in Bishkek. Members of the Council and experts of EurAsEC states-members, Health Ministers of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan took art in the meeting. The session will highlight the issues of cooperation in combating infective diseases (bird flu, HIV, tuberculosis, malaria), interaction in the personnel training, qualifications upgrading, state diplomas recognition, exchange of scientific and medical professionals, cooperation in the area of supplying the EurAsEC countries with necessary medicines and medical equipment. Besides, the participants of the session will focus on a draft plan of overriding events for implementation of the EurAsEC coordinated social policy concept and the interstate targeted programme Health of EurAsEC Nations.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Germany and Sweden Marat Bakiyev visited Sweden between May 27 and 31, 2008, the foreign ministry's press service reported. His visit was devoted to work out economic priorities of cooperation with Sweden. On this occasion, the embassy worked out and prepared a presentation regarding investment capabilities in Kyrgyzstan. M.Bakiyev visited one of the southern regions - Kiruna. He familiarized with a work of one of the biggest company in the world - LKAB (is an international high-tech minerals group of Sweden, one of the world's leading producers of upgraded high-tech iron ore products for the steel industry and a growing supplier of industrial minerals products to other sectors). And talked with the company's leadership. In Kuruna, it is decided to consider possibilities of establishing partnership relations with Kyrgyzstan. At the trade-industry chamber of Stockholm, an investment capabilities of Kyrgyzstan was presented, which attended by representatives of Swedish firms, organizations. He met with the trade ministry's state secretary and discussed issues of organizing the trip of Swedish businessmen to Kyrgyzstan. Besides, M.Bakiyev visited the offices of Eriksson and SWECO.

Prospects of CIS development were discussed at the conference "CIS: reality and prospects of development" organized by Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry in Bishkek on Tuesday. According to the Kyrgyz MFA's press service, purpose of the forum was discussion of interrelations between the CIS member states in the political, economic, trade and other aspects, issues of integration and disintegration, and role of Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in these projects. May 26, 2008. Vietnam is ready to develop and strengthen cooperation with Kyrgyzstan
Minister of foreign affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ednan Karabaev met with ambassador of Vietnam to Kyrgyzstan Le Van Toan. During the talks, the ambassador of Vietnam handed over a copy of credentials to E.Karabaev, the ministry's press service reported. He invited E.Karabaev to pay official visit to Vietnam. "Vietnam is ready to develop and strengthen bilateral relations between the two states", - said the ambassador. E.Karabaev pointed out the necessity of developing trade-economic relations and increasing commodity circulation between Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam. The both states are members of WTO.
